Some fresh air

Our work is not only about technology and energy saving. It is also and primarily about comfort and wellbeing.

Most of our clients are in the luxury goods industry. Therefore one of their main target in sales is to make their customers feel good during the purchase experience.

Invisibly and silently, we at PGS ingegneria contribute to this pleasant experience, designing and producing environments where our clients’ client (and employees!) feel good.

While correct lighting is essential, perfectly balanced air quality and temperature are vital for retail shops. Do you know the difference between traditional mixing ventilation and displacement ventilation systems?

With mixing ventilation systems, the primary air from the A.C. unit is combined with the (secondary) air already present in the environment, equalising temperature and velocity.

With displacement ventilation systems, primary and secondary air don’t mix. Using induction and buoyancy forces, low-velocity air from the A.C. diffusers, usually located near floor level, accelerates and is carried up into the thermal plumes that are formed by heat sources (e.g. occupants, electric appliances).

In the displacement ventilation systems, primary and secondary air is consolidated at ceiling level, ready for extraction, and it doesn’t re-enter the occupied space. This type of air-distribution strategy can effectively deliver fresh air to occupants and remove the contaminants associated with heat sources.

Selecting one of the two ventilation systems is a highly technical strategy, which is utterly and seamless harmonised with the spaces we design, with solutions made-to-measure for each client, creating a comfortable and healthy environment as a result.

All the technological parts of our systems are working invisibly ‘behind the scenes’, producing, when necessary, unique components in teamwork with our suppliers. It is our standard practice to design diffusers integrated into the furniture or decorations, as well as using the false ceiling as a plenum for air returns.
